Skin Care Series: Vitamin A | First Impression

Hi Everyone!

I’m trying something new, a vitamin regimen! I’m taking the recommended daily dose of Vitamin A everyday with my lunch. I also started cutting open the capsules and applying it directly to my skin. I’m using Jamieson Vitamin A capsules since they contain natural carrier ingredients (soybean oil, etc).

I do this after using my favourite cleansing and toning products. My post on cleansing can be found here and the one on toning is here.

My internet research has shown that some people have had success clearing their acne with a similar regimen. I don’t plan on keeping this up forever as Vitamin A can build up to toxic levels over time (especially if taking more than the recommended dose, so just don’t). I’ll be keeping this up for a month or so to see if there’s any improvement. If there is I might continue for a few months hoping for lasting results.

Apparently it can reduce the amount of oil the skin produces which will then reduce the amount of blocked pores and acne. So far I’ve noticed my skin texture is improved after around one week of use. The skin that isn’t affected by acne looks more smooth and pores are less visible. I’m still dealing with (some, but less) acne. I read that part takes at least a few weeks before seeing major improvement *crosses fingers*.


I’m using one capsule in the morning as moisturizer (my oily skin doesn’t need more) and two capsules at night (drinks it up overnight). Side note: don’t forget the SPF during the day since it can increase sensitivity to sun exposure.

Lush Easter: Good Egg | Haul

Hi Everyone!

The boyfriend surprised me with a Lush gift box!

This Good Egg gift box was totally unexpected and totally unnecessary… If he only knew I still have Lush Christmas products I haven’t used yet, haha. That’s not because I don’t love them, it’s because I feel as though they’re too special to use on a regular day. This is definitely a push to start enjoying and using what I have in my stash. I’m so glad he got this for me, there are some completely adorable limited edition items inside.

Skin Care Series: Acne / Sensitive Toning | Favourites

Welcome to the second instalment of my skin care series. In this post I’ll be discussing toning. If you missed the first instalment of this series you can read it here.


There are two toners I rotate depending on how my skin feels that day or night.


The first one is a long-term favourite and one I don’t want to be without. It’s the Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner. It uses fruit acids to gently refresh and refine the skin. I sweep this over my face after cleansing and before moisturizing (as you normally would with a toner). It’s definitely gentle enough for me to use twice daily. The quality that makes this special is that it doesn’t feel stripping whatsoever. If you’re looking for a light refresh and a good skin prep before using a treatment, I highly recommend checking this out.


My other favourite toner is one I’ve been using for about a year. The Kate Somerville Clarifying Toner boasts the ingredient phytic acid to brighten skin tone and diminish acne scars. It also has aloe which calms skin. This is more intense than the Clarins one, and I reach for it morning or night when my skin feels gunky. I highly recommend it if you have oily skin.

There are so many options for toners based on your skin type as well as concern. It’s not the same thing (as per the teachings of Caroline Hirons). Skin type is, for example; oily. Skin concern, for example; is blemishes. If I got that wrong I have seriously failed Mrs. Hirons, haha. I highly recommend her blog to anyone looking for expert knowledge on which products are best from which brands and for what skin types.

The next topic in this series is treatments. I have annoyingly finicky skin that’s sensitive but also requires powerful ingredients to make a difference. I’m happy to report I’ve found some that strike a good balance, so they might be helpful to other people too!
