The Body Shop | Haul

Hi Everyone!

I was shopping for the boyfriend’s birthday and walked past The Body Shop, intrigued. I was determined to go back after I had found some presents for Mr. MWM, haha.

There were a few things that had been on the “little list at the back of my head”, you know, those moments of “I should pick that up the next time I’m there!”.

I found the Mineral and Ginger Warming Massage Clay Mask (has been repackaged in Canada) as well as the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask. I’m well aware that a clay mask is a clay mask (they all do the same thing, draw out impurities) but I love them so I didn’t mind picking up both. The Body Shop always has a three for two and I have a membership card so I ended up getting a good deal altogether. I’m looking forward to trying these out and adding them into my weekly mask routine. I would recommend these for oily and/or acne prone skins since they are designed to purify.

The next two things I picked up are the Mango Shower Gel and the Drops of Light Pure Healthy Brightening Serum. The shower gel smells like a delicious tropical juice (yum!) and the serum felt divine on the back of my hand. Drops of Light is meant to brighten dark spots and even tone but I didn’t realize it was “tested on Asian skin” (says on the back of the box) so I’ll have to report back if it works for me.

Here’s a bonus picture featuring my cat, Bee, who wanted in on the hauling fun!

Keep an eye on my Instagram which is where I will do quick features of things I’m using and what I’m liking. You can find me at michellewearsmakeup.

Skin Care Series: Acne / Sensitive Cleansing | Favourites

Hi Everyone!

This is going to be a multiple part series where I discuss products I’m using for my acne-prone, sensitive skin. Before I really get into it, I want to say that these products aren’t “curing” my acne. I’m having some major skin issues recently (adult onset acne, thanks!) and these products are helping, but theyre not miracle workers.

Back in the day, I would attack my face with lots of harsh scrubbing and strip it of all oil-based products. Since I’ve given up on abusing my face it’s been less oily and my pimples have been clearing faster than they used to. Until I find products that stop acne before it starts, this is what I’m using to be kind to my skin and keep it moisturized, happy, and calm.

Cleansing Oils:

I’ve been meaning to write about this for so long! I’ve tried the Clinique Take the Day Off (oil and balm versions), the Boscia Makeup Breakup, and The Body Shop Chamomile cleansing oils. The Clinique oil and balm versions were good but not amazing enough for the price tag. The one I’ve been using for around 6 weeks is the Sephora Collection Supreme Cleansing Oil. I like it because a little goes a long way and the price is great for the amout of product you get. I find the Body Shop oil is too thin and I need 4 pumps to get the job done so I go through it very quickly. I have some left so I use it in the shower. I still recommend it, but it’s not my #1 favourite right now. The Boscia oil is a bit thick for me and slightly drying on my sensitive skin but if you like a fresh scent and have more normal skin you might enjoy that one. Sephora‘s Supreme Cleansing Oil doesn’t take a lot of work to remove regular (non-waterproof) eye makeup and doesn’t leave a residue.

Physical Exfoliating:

A long time favourite for a gentle physical exfoliator (the second step when I double cleanse) is the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Polish. It contains natural shea nut shell powder. This is a much gentler version of certain drug store gritty cleansers which have a habit of scratching the skin. It’s very creamy and doesn’t feel drying at all. It also smells strangely good like a mix of Cheerios and Froot Loops (yes, sounds crazy but if you’ve smelled it you know what I mean, haha).

A heavier duty physical exfoliator that I would typically use twice a week is the Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser. I’ve been using this for over 3 months, sparingly. This could be a love-it or hate-it product. It has a citrusy scent that might be reminiscent of a bathroom cleaner. I don’t mind it at all but some people might not be a fan. It’s a gel consistency with gentle silica microbeads (not plastic microbeads). I would defnitely recommend being super gentle on your skin with this cleanser because otherwise you run the risk of irritation. It sloughs off dead skin and leaves it much softer.

I hope you enjoyed this post! I tried keeping it short, sweet and to the point but rambling is one of my favourite passtimes. Keep and eye out for the next parts of my Skin Care Series which will include topics like Toning, Eye Cream, Facial Oil, Moisturizer and possibly others like Masks, Peels, and Treatments.

Five Drugstore Makeup Products | Haul

Happy Saturday, Everyone!
I had a quick dentist appointment yesterday morning and had some time before work, so naturally I popped into my favourite drug store and picked up a handful of makeup products.

There wasn’t really a rhyme or reason for the items I bought. These are all things that happened to catch my eye.

First up is the Covergirl Tru Naked Waterproof Eyeliner Duo in Espresso and Cashmere.

I’m looking forward to trying these out at the same time. It’s a huge pet peeve when you want to brighten your lower waterline but darken your upper water line, blink, and you end up with a greyish colour all around your eyes from the two mixing together. Hopefully this waterproof claim will be true, stay tuned!

Next is the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick in Nude Flush.

It looks quite glossy when first swatched on my hand but it’s actually more of a mousse. When it dries down it looks matte but not dry since it retains it’s mousse-y texture. I wore this at work yesterday and it did transfer onto my coffee cup but left a nice even stain on my lips, so it’s a winner!

I grabbed another “mousse-y” liquid lipstick but this time it’s the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Liquid Lip Color in Devotion. I already have these in two other shades (a nude; Seduction, and a red; Passion), but I wanted a fresh spring colour.

The formulation of these is on point. They dry down nicely and leave a surprisingly bouncy matte look. It’s hard to describe but basically they don’t make your lips look dry or shrivelly *shudder*. Side note: the colour is a lot more pinky in natural light.

A foundation managed to sneak into my basked somehow, despite the fact that I have around a dozen already. I’m not sure why but I feel like I need a different foundation for every occasion, or every mood, or every type of skin day. Today’s foundation happens to be the Maybelline Dream Velvet in the shade 05 Warm Porcelain.

I didn’t include a swatch for this because it really didn’t show up on camera. I’ll need to test this on my face to give more thoughts. First impressions are that it seems to be light to medium coverage with a mousse texture (why did I buy so many mousse textured things?).

Last but not least is NYX’s The Go-To Palette in 01 Wanderlust. Oooh, with a name like that I’m curious to see how it lives up!

I swatched these quickly on my arm and I do have some opinions. I started with the eyeshadows and was really impressed. The shimmers are well pigmented and go on smooth. The mattes weren’t as pigmented as my higher-end ones, but still workable, which is awesome for an affordable brand. I got down the line to the highlighter and was also pleasantly surprised, but then… The blush and contour. I rubbed my finger over them and they chalked up. Maybe with a soft brush over the cheeks that won’t happen. Once again, I’ll have to give them a real try before passing final judgment. Overall, definitely glad I picked this up! It would be great for travel since it has a nice shade range for different eye looks.

Keep an eye on my social media which is where I’ll mention what products I’m wearing/loving #FOTD (Face Of The Day).

Have a fantastic weekend, Everyone!
