Who doesn’t have this amazing highlighter? If you spend any time on YouTube following beauty gurus, you might have heard about it… a million times, haha.
Well, I was on the anti-bandwagon, as I often am with “over hyped” products. Guess what, this is definitely worth the hype. The Balm Mary-Lou Manizeris a golden highlight powder that packs a serious punch!
My favourite thing about this product is that it’s buildable. You can use different types of brushes to get different effects as well. A stiffer, more dense brush will give you a stronger colour payoff. Whereas a big fluffy brush will give you a natural, ethereal glow. I also own the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in the shade Brilliant but I have to admit I reach for The Balm one more often.
Even though my skin type is combination-oily, I can still use highlighters with proper placement. By avoiding the forehead it doesn’t look greasy. Instead, I sweep this in a C shape from above the tail of my eyebrow down and along my cheekbone. I avoid bringing it onto the apples of my cheeks. A slight dusting over the bridge of the nose and cupid’s bow gives a nice balanced effect.
Whether you want something for everyday, or a full-on night out strobing effect, Mary-Lou‘s got you covered.
As always, follow me on Twitter and Instagram to get updates on what I’m using and loving as well as when new posts are up!

Today’s post is a major #TBT, I bought a foundation I haven’t worn in years! The L’Oréal True Match Foundation.
I bought the shade W1 Porcelain. I like to start off with a really light base and build colour on top such as contour, bronzer, and blush. To be honest, right now all my foundations are just too dark. It’s that awkward time at the very end of winter when your skin hasn’t seen the sun in the longest amount of time possible, haha.
I’m loving this so much right now. I find it has a satin finish. Not too matte that it looks cakey or like a mask and definitely not dewy which is nice since I have oily skin.
Pardon my horrifically banged up nails, getting them done soon, I swear!
At $17.99 this is a great mid-range price for a foundation. I find this really easy to blend with a brush like the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (so reasonably priced and amazing). I’ve also applied this with fingers but I find the blending takes more time and it can streak if you aren’t careful.
I’ve been reaching for this over my NARS Sheer Glow, so that ought to tell you something!
What’s your current favourite drugstore foundation? Let me know in the comments!
I picked up a Maybelline The Smokes palette at the drugstore recently. It was a sunny morning today, which was perfect for taking some photos and doing swatches. All photos are taken in natural sunlight.
I usually do very simple eye makeup looks for everyday. A swipe of Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze with Kat Von D Liquid Liner in Trooper and I’m ready for mascara! If I’m going out for a special occasion I’ll do a neutral smokey eye. I already have this palette in The Nudes and love it!
I’m excited to try The Smokes palette because there are a few swatches that look very promising!
If it turns out alright, I might post a follow-up “MOTD” look with this!
Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
